CycloFemme Park and Picnic Bicycle Ride

This Mother’s Day, treat your family to some quality time on a bicycle. This scenic neighborhood route shows off five of our lovely parks in the City Heights area, starting and ending at Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park. This ride is especially made for mothers and families, as the pace will be leisure, but anyone is welcome to join.

From Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park, this group will roll just over three miles to the lovely Azalea Park below the Manzanita Canyon. Everyone is welcome to bring food for a picnic rest at Azalea Park.

When everyone feels ready to continue, one group will ride back to Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park starting point for anyone who would like. For riders who want some more time on the bike, the remaining group will continue riding. This group will pass three more parks and the Chollas Reservoir before returning to Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park.

The following are some things you might want to know:

WHAT TO EXPECT: Participants should know how to ride a bike, even if it has been a while. Any bike will work for this route, but it should be in working order. It is best if you are able to check your bicycle at least a few days before the ride to make sure your bike has working brakes and the tires are not flat. Take it to a bike shop (or a good friend) to look it over if you are not sure.

Additionally, there will be inclines along the route, but nothing to fear. If there are any inclines that wear you out, the group will wait before moving on – even if that means you would rather walk :) We are not in any hurry, so take your time.

Most importantly, you'll have fun!

WHAT TO BRING: Water, sunscreen, a working bike as well as spare tubes or patch kits if possible. You don’t need to know how to fix a flat, but bringing the tools will help. You will also need a helmet for each rider, and any food or non-alcoholic beverages that you would like to have at the picnic in Azalea Park.

WHAT TO WEAR: Comfortable shoes and clothes that are not too loose or hang down too much to potentially get caught in or on your bike.

PARKING: There is street parking by Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park.

New York

This ride will go from the New York side of the George Washington Bridge up to State Line Lookout and back to the NY side of the bridge, covering about 30 miles. We’ll have a pit stop about 3 miles into the ride at a location where there are views of the river and the bridge; then we’ll stop for lunch/snack at a vantage point over the river with spectacular views, including possible hawk and falcon sightings. (Bring a camera!) There is a snack bar where you can purchase an inexpensive snack or lunch.

You may ride any type of bike (except no aero bars), but it must have enough gears for you to climb comfortably. The final climb up to the Lookout is on a back road that is closed to traffic, so if necessary you can walk up (about 8/10 mile, not terribly steep). However, there are other shorter hills along the way that you will be expected to ride up, though nothing terribly steep.

Our pace will be 13 miles/hour on flat terrain. We’ll go slower up the hills, so our overall average will be about 10 m.p.h.

Our meeting place is on the New York side of the George Washington Bridge on the Cabrini Blvd. sidewalk between 177th & 178th Streets. You can take the A train to 175th St. Be near the uptown end of the train and exit at 177th St. (There’s an elevator from platform to mezzanine about 1 ½ car lengths from the uptown end of the train. Upon exiting the gate, bear left past the token booth to go up stairs to the NW corner of Ft. Mother's Day Ride.
Not all of us are mommies, but we all spend a tremendous amount of energy loving on and taking care of the ones we love…this is our pleasure…this is our joy…but moments need to be dedicated to taking care of ourselves. After all, you can't take care of anyone if you can't take care of yourself first. I hope you will join me in a little moment to honor yourself on two wheels.

We will ride on the paved section of the Salado Creek Greenway. Cruiser, mountain bike, road bike, your kid's bike…if it has two wheels, it will roll on this! If you don't have a bike, message me, I will find you one for you to borrow!

Horseshoe Valley, Ontario, CANADA

On May 11th Ride Guides will host a guided ride in the Copeland Forest in support of Cyclo Femme and riders participating internationally in celebration of Woman Who Cycle. This ride is to celebrate and encourage woman to participate and help grow awareness of the sport, we encourage everyone to come ride and their show support. We’re going to start off the day at 9am in the Nordic parking lot off Horseshoe Valley Rd with some quick stretching, and trail safety discussions as the Copeland, and all of her natural elements are going to be our playground for the day. Once we drop in at the southernmost point of the boundary, we will head in and get warmed up, preparing us for our first big climb of the day up “Mile High”, it’s all downhill from there (for a while at least!). Over the course of the morning we will have the opportunity to ride many of the timeless trails that made the Copeland forest what it is today, accumulating the vertical so we can enjoy all the gravity based riding the forest has to offer us. There will be two groups heading out, one for intermediate riders, and the other will be for new comers to the sport. So tell your friends, everyone is welcome! Ride Guides

WHO? Cycling girls) All ages, nationalities, colours of skin, religions etc. Road or mountain bikes, beginners or professionals, doesn’t matter – come and join us, even if it’s gonna be only a couple of km! BOYS are not allowed to ride with us, but will be very welcome at the stops, with tools for repairing our bikes:)
WHAT? Cross-country ride. We will pass through the whole Grand-Duchy from Belgian border to German, with the stops every 10-15 km for coffee/talks and fixing our bikes if something is broken. It’s not a race, we’ll move in a calm pace, so don’t worry if you’re not used to ride long distances. *Let’s put on skirts and dresses! We are girls!

WHERE? Meeting point: Kleinbettingen railway station. It’s the last Luxembourgish station before the border with Belgium. Take the train from Luxembourg-city direction Arlon, at 9:47am.
Destination: Wasserbillig railway station
(Kleinbettingen – Cappelen – Mammer – Strassen – Luxembourg-city – Kirchberg – Hostert – Olingen – Betzdorf – Mertert – Wasserbillig
The route is about 50 km. The stops are to be confirmed.

We're splitting the ride in to two parts this year.

We all meet at the Peace Statue on Brighton seafront at 9.30am. We'll ride along the seafront cycle paths to Carats Cafe in Shoreham. This bit of the ride is all off the main road, so suitable for (supervised) children. It's also completely flat, so all levels of rider and all types of bike are welcome!

At this point one of us will lead a group back to Brighton, and I'll be taking anyone who wants to do a longer road ride on a 30ish mile loop of the Sussex Lanes, finishing at The Velo Cafe for a coffee and some cake.

This ride is totally inclusive, so however you identify, join us to celebrate women on bikes.

To honor those that went before us – and just to have a brilliant fun ride join us for a 'Breeze for Women CycloFemme Steampunkish Suffragette Cycle Ride' – you can dress yourself or your bike up in steampunkish style, go Suffragette or Tweedy, Dress for the 70's, do cycle chic or wear lycra if you fancy!
We are cycling to honor women and the invention of the Bicycle! '
Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel…the picture of free, untrammelled womanhood'. ~ Susan B. Anthony.
We shall meet up at 11:30am down at Brayford Wharf (There is a lincoln hirebike stand there for those without their own bike who want to join us!) at the far end by The Barge and Starbucks – from there we shall have a gentle ride with flair around some cycle paths and into the city with some stops for coffee and cake.
This is a gentle ride suitable for all Women of any age and any style of bike – the more the merrier so come join in!
(There may be some slight hill work if we go up to the cathedral and castle quarter – but we can get off and walk!- and this will be for the suffragettes in attendence to decide if they want to go uphill)
