Join The Whirly Girls as we ride on the Platte. Meet at the gravel parking lot on the southwest corner of Little Raven & 15th Street (across the Platte from REI) at 1pm. As Team Captain of The Whirly Girls, I am most interested in supporting newer, less experienced riders, so we won't be doing more or going faster than everyone can do and go. Or, if there are two groups (one up for more and faster, we could split into two groups). Most importantly, this team is about FUN, not competition. So I hope you'll join us for some fun. We'll have beer at beer thirty, just so you know. Questions? Contact me! xoxoxoxo   Maggie Doyle  Whirly Girls Team Captain

A women only Austin Wide Women’s Racing Team Ride and CycloFemme event hosted by the various Austin based women’s racing teams (Austin Flyers, Brain and Spine, Ghisallo Foundation Racing Team, Snapple-ATC, University of Texas, Velossimo, 787 and others) and presented by the Ghisallo Foundation. We will meet at Dolce Vita (4222 Duval Street) for coffee around 8am with a 9am (sharp) roll out to Manor and back (~34 miles). Please expect to have averaged 15-16mph by the end of the ride with stretches at higher sustained speeds. There will be a rest/water stop in Manor and you should be back in Austin around noon.  This is not a “no-drop” ride, but we will do our best to keep the group together.

You do not need to have a USA Cycling racing license or be on one of the listed teams to participate, but you should be comfortable riding in an organized group (double paceline) and be able to manage the distance comfortably. This is not a no-drop ride but we will do our best to keep the group together. Riders are expected to be on a road bike (no fixed gears, TT bikes, etc), have brought their own food, water, tools, and have the skills to handle most basic mechanicals (flat tires, etc). Helmets are required and headphones are not allowed. Be sure to have you bike aired up and running smoothly the night before the ride. This post will be updated with links to the event page (with maps and queue sheets) as we get closer to Bike Month (May) and the CycloFemme ride event.

A very short, not very well organised, certainly not stressful ride to celebrate the women cyclists who came before, the amazing ones who are riding now, and the little sisters who are just getting their training wheels! All welcome. 8am Sunday Morning, meeting at the Botanical Gardens side of the Goodwill Bridge. I will be there from about 7.45am onwards, probably looking a bit worse for wear. Then we can ride whereever the Mother's Day jogging is NOT happening. Maybe to New Farm. BYO Bike and Helmet. I don't think you have to be a woman to celebrate and support the women in your life – so if you have an hour or so free, then a nice relaxing ride might be nice.  Eleanor

We ride for many reasons. Some of us ride to HONOR THE PAST and the emancipation of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, for the freedom to choose and the chance to wear pants (Ed's note: or not!). Some of us ride to CELEBRATE THE PRESENT and the riders who keep it rolling, bringing women's racing to the forefront, pushing the limits, breaking down barriers and sharing the love of the bike with everyone along the way. Some of us ride to EMPOWER THE FUTURE of women in cycling and the opportunity for positive social change. Some of us just think it's an AWFULLY CONVENIENT WAY TO GET BETWEEN COFFEES. Whether all caps evokes women's cycling activism or lots and lots and lots of caffeinated frothy milk for you, we'd love to have you along as we join our cycling sisters worldwide for our own Melbourne version of cyclofemme.com – a bicycle coffee crawl. And as it's Mothers' Day, feel free to invite mum. The pace will be gentle, the ride will be not too long, and once she's good and jittery, we'll find an appropriate lunching venue with drinks of the kind to balance her out again. Meet at the Edinburgh Gardens rotunda at 10am. BYO Keep Cup, in case numbers force us to get takeaways.
